Habilitat's 13th Annual Luau

Each year, thousands of people on Oahu flock to this great event on the Windward side. Henry Kapono, Robi Kahakalau and John headline this year's entertainment lineup, with John taking the stage about 11:50am. Look for Hawaiian luau cuisine like kalua pig, chicken long rice, lomi salmon, squid luau and more. Bid for tons of items in the live and silent auctions. Turn the kids loose on the keiki activities. It's good fun for a good cause. Habilitat provides dozens of community services, ranging from drug rehabilitation to house building, landscaping, catering and even car washing. They sell Christmas trees through schools during the holidays and have been helping to "motivate the unmotivated" for over 40 years. Please support this valuable asset to our islands.

Uncle's Awa Club

If you live on the Big Island, you know what has happened to Uncle Robert's place in Kalapana in recent months. Hundreds show up for the Wednesday farmer's market and infamous jam session that follows. Right at the edge of the Kalapana lava flow in the Puna district, they say it's where the road ends and aloha begins. This authentic local style awa bar is as Old Hawaii as it gets. They may or may not have food for this show. You may or may not get a seat at one of the luau style picnic tables. But you are guaranteed a great time with plenty of awa and drinks from the bar, not to mention the friendly, low key vibe of the place. John plays for 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon...the perfect way to end your weekend. No advanced tickets for this one. Just show up and pay at the door.

Attend valuable workshops between July 10th and 14th, or just check out the concerts on Friday and Saturday nights. Either way, it's a special event that John has been a part of since day 1. Hui Kako'o Benefit Concert Series

The Big Island's KAPA Radio is the proud sponsor of this great community event that supports the Hawaii Foodbank. This organization collects and distributes nutritious food to low income families, the ill, disabled, elderly and children. While the concert is free, they ask that you bring at least 2 cans of food. Why not bring even more than that?  You'll find the stage and Foodbank volunteers right in the middle of the shopping center parking lot. John plays for about an hour starting at 6.
